WordPress is a blogging platform. What about Events?
WordPress has incredible possibilities. And I love it for that. There are various methods you can create an Event listing website and sell tickets by using WordPress. That too quite quickly and easily. I will show you one of those methods over here today.
WP Event Manager
WP Event Manager is a free WordPress plugin. WP Event Manager plugin enables to create a full-featured event listing website in WordPress.
To install the plugin, download WP Event Manager plugin from here. Once downloaded, head to your website’s WP-admin > Plugins > Add new. Click on “Upload Plugin”.
Select the downloaded file and upload it. Once completed, click on Activate plugin link. That’s it.
You need to configure it a bit once activated. Let’s check out the WP event Manager plugin features and how to configure them:
Allows event organizers to add events to your website from front-end. You can change the setting of this page from WP-admin > Event Listings page. Click on “Event Submission” tab.
Event organizers can manage their events from front-end dashboard. They need to login and go to their account to view the events they have submitted.
Bootstrap compatible UI
One can disable bootstrap too. This helps in choosing themes from a wide range.
Users can search/filter through their interesting events using AJAX search. AJAX prevent various page refresh and hence prevents users getting annoyed.
Easy admin management using WordPress
Login to WP-admin. Go to Event Listings >> All Events. Here you can see all the events. You can view, edit, delete them. You can also filter them to search through all the events.
The star in below screenshot says that an event is featured or not. Admin user can mark an event featured by editing it. Enable the option “Featured Listing” given under “Event Data” section.
Featured events stand first on listings and search result pages. You can also style them differently.
Tip: You can cost higher for featured event listings. Or You can make your most popular event as featured to attract more visitors.
Easy plugin configuration
WP Event Manager is having plenty of useful options available in the admin panel. These options allow you to create an event listing website as per your requirements. These options are available at WP-admin > Event Listings > Settings.
How can you monetize your website by selling tickets?
Can you imagine an event listing website without tickets availability? Of course…. NO. Then how can I miss to mention it?
An online event directory is like a train with the engine but without passengers. Sell tickets just serve that purpose using WordPress.
Turn your website into an Event listing website and an online event ticketing system by using WP Event Manager add-ons “Sell Tickets” & “Registrations”.
Registrations and Sell Tickets both the plugins cost $39 each. To install the plugin, buy and download it from here. Once downloaded, head to your website’s WP-admin > Plugins > Add new. Click on “Upload Plugin”.
I have listed here few of the prominent features of the plugin and how to configure them. It will give you more details on the plugin.
Different types of Event tickets
Paid Tickets: You can create paid tickets for your events. Go to Events and edit/add the relevant event. Under Tickets section, you will be able to find “Paid Tickets” option as shown in the screenshot below.
Free tickets: Free tickets are useful when you are not organizing a paid event. however; though you want to know the number of attendees. Or if you want to limit the attendees then also it is very useful. You can create Free ticket similar to paid tickets shown above.
Go to Events and edit/add the relevant event. Under Tickets section, you will be able to find “Free Tickets” option as shown in the screenshot below.
Donation Tickets: Accept donations using Donation ticket type for charity events.
Multiple tickets: I like this feature personally. Using Sell Tickets plugin one can have multiple types of tickets too for a single event.
You just need to go on adding tickets as much as you want.
Sell Tickets add-on runs on WooCommerce plugin. It is most popular eCommerce plugin in WordPress.
You can have as many payment gateways as WooCommerce is having. It has most of the payment gateways available.
By default, it comes with PayPal, and Cash on Delivery.
To add any additional payment gateway, you can search them using words “WooCommerce payment gateway payment_gateway_name” over Google. Payment gateways available on the official WooCommerce website are here.
Download and install them as per your requirements. Adding any payment gateway is as same as adding any WordPress plugin.
Tickets/Event registration Tracking:
Get records of all the registrations and also filter them event wise. Go to Event Registration > All Event Registrations.
To change the particular registration status, Click on “View” under Actions column. Select the status from right hand side “Save Registration” block and Save it.
You can also filter through registrations by using options given above the event listing.
Customize attendee information/ ticket registration form fields. When someone buys a ticket he/she can provide you some information needed for the event. You can customize these fields from Event Registrations > Registration Form > Form Fields.
